Habitat restoration: coir rolls at Hackbridge

Thanks to lots of hard work from 34 volunteers who turned out in spring sunshine to help us install 39 metres of coir rolls at Hackbridge on Saturday, in a smooth and successful joint operation with the Wandle Piscators and the Environment Agency…

… the concrete banks of this stretch of river are now looking a whole lot softer and healthier!

There’s a full report and photo-essay over on the Wandle Piscators’ site: throughout the next weeks and months, we’ll keep a close eye on these coconut-fibre rolls, and update everyone with progress as they sprout with reeds, water mint and water forget-me-nots.
