Community Catchment Plan: tell us what you think!
To help us all make the River Wandle truly sustainable for the future, it’s vital that we know about the factors that affect its health.
Phosphates from sewage effluent, oil and heavy metals from urban runoff… because almost everything that runs downhill in the Wandle Valley eventually ends up in the Wandle, we need to understand all of these, and many more, before we can work out how to address them on a whole-catchment scale.
Just as importantly, as a grassroots community organisation, the Wandle Trust is here help local people feel connected to their river, and enjoy taking responsibility for its health.
That’s why we’ve now employed our new Development Officer, Dr Bella Davies, to consult everyone possible on their ideas for the Wandle’s sustainable future.
As a Wandle Valley resident, what do you like about your river, its wildlife and its surroundings?
What don’t you like, and what would help you love it more?
What can you suggest to improve it?
Over the next few months, Bella will be asking many people for their views on their river, and helping us all to understand the scientific aspects of protecting and increasing the Wandle’s biodiversity.
So if you have an idea of any kind, no matter how big or small, we need your help to create the Wandle’s first ever Community Catchment Plan.
Please don’t hesitate to email Bella, stop her on the river bank, or speak to her at one of our regular monthly cleanups. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
