Bed regrading and new banks

The work at Ravensbury Park is progressing nicely. The weir has been removed, the bed regraded and the old, creosoted toe boards removed. Our contractors are currently forming the new bank with 7 feet chestnut posts driven into the bed, lining with geotextiles and backfilling with the concrete from the weir, gravel and earth.

Over time this will  become colonised by vegetation etc.. and can be planted up with marginal aquatic species in the spring.

Where has the weir gone? The regraded river bed.

Watch this space for more updates next week as we introduce tonnes of gravel to sculpt the shape of the new river bed!
