26 and 27 July; the work continues
To finish off the bank ready for planting, 8 tonnes of topsoil were added to the newly formed berm.
A further 26 bags of gravel were delivered and the newly desilted stretch was gravelled to form riffles, runs and bars.
The gravel is a mix of 40-60mm flint rejects with some smaller sized particles too. Its angular nature and size distribution is perfect for giving a tight fit when spread out and leaves gaps between the particles for invertebrates to live and fish to spawn in.
As it takes shape, you can hardly recognise the river from what it once was!
