Wandle cleanup: April 2007: Wandsworth

For the first time we had more than 50 volunteers at a cleanup!  This fantastic turnout was no doubt due in part to the glorious weather but thanks also to all those who have been spreading the word to friends.

The area around the bridge at the end of Trewint Street has clearly benefited from our previous cleanups and this enabled us to focus much of our effort further upstream.  As ever, the work was physically demanding although Maria managed to add a touch of glamour.  Team work was essential to remove large items from the river.

Items retrieved from the silty river bed included a water tank, oven, fridge, toilet and a couple of motor bikes!

As ever we are grateful for Wandsworth Council for picking up the rubbish, and to the truck driver for letting us off helping load up the truck which meant we could retire a bit earlier to the beer garden at the Leather Bottle.
