What a beautiful day and location for a cleanup. A record breaking 66 volunteers waded in the river in Poulter Park, litter picked the banks and valiantly pushed wheelbarrows full of rubbish to the dumping site. This stretch was badly hit by the pollution incident in September so it was very deserving of some TLC!
Some were quite surprised at the amount of rubbish hidden in a seemingly clean river. Items retrieved from the river included two safes, a bath tub and part of a shot gun.
Our young volunteers played their part too.
John Bishop ensured that this was very civilized cleanup, complete with gazebo and table. These proved incredibly useful as the stream of sponsored walkers took a break to pick up leaflets and learn about our activities. We retired to the lawn at Morden Hall for a few drinks and to enjoy the last of the sunshine.
